Planting at Ashfield Flats

BPG had our first planting of the season this morning at Ashfield Flats. The goal was to get 150 advanced trees and 450 standard plants into the ground.

Thanks to the help of volunteers from the community we achieved that, with plenty of time to spare!

With these new advanced trees in the ground, the perimeter of the regenerating bushland is strengthened against future erosion. The other plants were used as infill to increase species diversity and density, so that these patches can one day grow into a thriving and complex wetland system.

BPG regulars showed up at 8:00am to reopen the planting holes for the 2L pots, while the rest of the volunteers started after 10:00am to do the planting. The smaller tubestock was planted by volunteers with our new stock of Hamilton tree planters, acquired via a grant kindly provided by the Town of Bassendean.

After the recent rains, the ground was nice and muddy, which helped make the clay a little softer and will no doubt help these new plants get a good start.

Our next planting for the season will be at Bindaring Park, on Sunday the 28th of July, with more details to come. If you can make it, we would very much like to see you there!

We’ll leave you with some more photos of the day today:
